Great Eastern Highway, Perth to
Kalgoorlie - Western Australia Commencing at Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, and running due east for 595 kms to Kalgoorlie is Great Eastern Hwy, part of the main route for all traffic and transport to and from the eastern states of Australia, and the lifeline to WA's eastern goldfields. It follows the Perth-Kalgoorlie Water Pipeline and Indian Pacific Railway, travelling through a variety of small to medium farming and gold prospecting towns.

Southern Cross Southern Cross is located on the Great Eastern Highway 368km east of Perth. It is the centre for the Yilgarn Shire (Yilgarn is the Aboriginal word for white stone or quartz). Southern Cross is situated in a prosperous, well established farming area including some of the largest farms in the state. Gold was discovered in Southern Cross in 1888 by Tom Risely and Mick Toomey. They named the place after the stars that had been their guide. Today all the streets and the salt lake of the town are named after stars or constellations. For a panoramic view of the area, head up to Wimmera Hill Lookout which overlooks the township, the surrounding farmland and goldmines.

The John Ankerberg ministries feature a weekly half-hour nationwide television program (USA) whose purpose is to demonstrate that Christianity is true so that our viewers will embrace it for themselves and learn to share it effectively with others. The formats of choice for this apologetics ministry are informal debates between representatives of differing belief systems, and documentary-styled presentations on major issues in society to which the historic Christian faith has something of consequence to say. The programs are designed to reach and appeal to a thinking audience of Christians and non-Christians alike. |

Coolgardie Coolgardie is located seven hours drive east of Perth and a forty minute drive south west of Kalgoorlie. The Coolgardie of today has retained many aspects of its rich and colourful history. Its charm and friendliness make it a great town in which to discover the past. Coolgardie is world renowned for two events, the birthplace of the great gold rush of 1892 and Varischetti's amazing mine rescue after nine days trapped in a flooded mine underground. It was once the third largest town in Western Australia with two stock exchanges, three breweries, seven newspapers and 26 hotels.
