Carnarvon & south from Northampton - Western Australia

Carnarvon is located 904 kilometres north of Perth on the North West Coastal Highway. A coastal town, Carnarvon has a moderate tropical climate

and is famous for its banana plantations. Drawing water from the aquifer of the river basin, the many plantations grow a host of delicacies. Bananas,

mangoes, papaya, carambola melons, grapes and a wide range of vegetables are readily available. With a vibrant seafood industry, there is

no shortage of fresh fish, prawns and scallops to throw on the barbecue. Two landmarks that have had a significant influence on the history

of Carnarvon are the Carnarvon Heritage Precinct Jetty & Railway and the OTC satellite communications dish.

Old gold mine poppet head near Galena Bridge on the North West Coastal Highway, Murchison, Western Australia.

Farming country around Northampton, just north of

Geraldton, Western Australia.

The Galena Bridge, the old low crossing and the newer

high one that takes the North West Coastal Highway.

The Galena Bridge area is designated a 24 hour camping ground, and has rudimentary toilets, but nothing else.

This is the lowest water level I have ever seen

of the Murchison River at the Galena Bridge.

The Billabong Roadhouse is 232 kms north of Geraldton.

The Overlander Roadhouse is 48 kms north of the Billabong.

The 'north west' of WA officially begins here.

Cattle grids are common along outback Australia roads.
