Burra Region

South Australia

By any measure, Burra is a fascinating town. It calls itself 'An Historic Copper Town and the Merino Capital of the World',

a title justified as it was declared a State Heritage town in 1994, because it has a wealth of outstanding historic buildings

and offers a rare opportunity for the visitor to appreciate what life in a 19th century copper mining town was like. In more

recent times, the area around Burra has been used as a setting for films, including the highly regarded 'Breaker Morant'.

Located 156 km north of Adelaide, Burra is on the edge of marginal land. It is a pretty and historic town where the

visitor can easily spend a full day exploring the town's rich mining history.

Young Island Already Looks Millions of Years Old

Surtsey is a volcanic island ‘born’ in 1963 off the coast of Iceland.

Yet in less than a decade, there were ‘land features that typically

take tens of thousands or millions of years to form’, according to

an evolutionary geologist.

"My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother...
...if sinners entice you, do not consent.  If they say, “Come with us, let us lie in wait to shed blood;
let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause... Cast in your lot among us, let us all have one purse”

— My son, do not walk in the way with them, keep your foot from their path; for their feet run to evil,

and they make haste to shed blood. Surely, in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird;

but they lie in wait for their own blood...
So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain; It takes away the life of its owners."

Proverbs ch.1  vs.8-19.  The Holy Bible - New King James Version
